WEATHERITE KEEPS COOL UNDER PRESSURE

When United Facilities Management (UFM) Ltd needed to install two replacement chiller units at one of ‘their’ prestigious properties in Hammersmith, they needed an absolute assurance that, despite tight deadlines, the work would be completed on time and with the minimum amount of disruption.

“We knew we had to act quickly, “explains Stephen Bouchard, Group MD of UFM. “As the ex-isting chiller units were failing, resulting in working conditions that were far from ideal for im-portant clients within the building.

UFM also knew that to meet its strategic commitment to environmental issues, the replace-ment units needed to provide both quantifiable improvements in energy running costs as well as reducing the buildings carbon footprint – but they also had to find a company that could meet very specific design constraints and the tight installation deadline.

“The replacement units needed to be crane-lifted into position. This required the suspension of parking bays in an adjacent road and that could not be sanctioned by Hammersmith Coun-cil when other construction projects were already putting an increased demand on the local road infrastructure.

WBS was confident however that they could meet the deadline and still install the new chillers in time to keep the tenants satisfied. The installation included the manufacture of new galva-nized steel frame sections with new safety handrails and steps and the use of specialist anti-vibration mountings to meet with strict local housing noise constraints.
