BIFM ‘Facilities Manager of the Year’ awarded Platinum Award of Excellence in FM

The British Institute of Facilities Management’s’ (BIFM) reigning ‘Facilities Manager of the Year’, Deborah Rowland, has officially been presented with her ‘Platinum Award of Excellence in FM’ after her success in the 2014 Global FM Awards. The annual Awards from Global FM recognise and reflect the ‘best-of-the-best’ in facilities management (FM) from across the globe, as entrants only consist of award finalists from Global FM members.

On World FM Day (4 June 2014) it was announced that Rowland, Head of Property Asset Management at UK Ministry of Justice, had been awarded the top Platinum Award. Julie Kortens, Chairman of BIFM, presented Deborah with her award in front of many peers and FM professionals at the Facilities Show Keynote Theatre at ExCeL, London.

Speaking on her win, Rowland said: “This is probably the greatest accolade I can receive from my peers and industry bodies. I am extremely proud to have won this on behalf of all UK Facilities Managers particularly those serving the public sector.”

Key to her win was the creation of a central FM strategy which is assisting government in reducing the budget deficit by proving that FM is the enabler to achieving significant running cost efficiencies across the public sector estate. Working closely with key central government estate stakeholders enabled the development of the FM Contract Model which is now being procured. This will provide transparency of spend and supplier performance, consistency in FM standards and enable government to become an intelligent client.

This work helped make Rowland the first ever individual to win a Platinum Global Award for Excellence. It is also another top win for the BIFM. This is the fourth year out of five in which an entry submitted by the Institute has triumphed.

Anyone looking to succeed Deborah as the BIFM ‘FM of the Year’ has until Friday 27 June to submit their completed entry. Who knows, it could lead to a global Platinum award? Full details are available on www.bifm.org.uk/awards2014
