MITIE, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing company, has been recognised by the Association of Healthcare Cleaning Professionals (AHCP) for “Working in Partnership” with Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust.
AHCP is the professional association for healthcare cleaning in the UK and Ireland. Their annual awards, which took place in Bolton last week, distinguish the best cleaning teams in the healthcare sector.
A team from MITIE’s Facilities Management business, which provides cleaning services to Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust, was nominated for the award following an independent patient survey.
MITIE was nominated alongside three NHS Trusts, but stood out for meeting the overall goals of Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust, which it has worked in partnership with since 2006.
Over that time MITIE has implemented a number of initiatives to improve standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
With the added risk to patients of heathcare acquired infections like MRSA, MITIE has focused on investing in new technology and cleaning equipment, performance monitoring, training, and infection control to ensure that high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained.
Pauline Lewin, Chief of Infrastructure and Development for Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: “The cleanliness of our hospitals is something which patients and visitors notice straightaway and, quite rightly, we are judged on our performance in this respect.
“It’s really encouraging to see the AHCP recognise the joint efforts from our staff at the Trust and the MITIE team. We hope this, along with the fantastic survey results, will help reassure patients about the standards they can expect when coming into one of our hospitals.”
Martyn Freeman, managing director of MITIE’s Facilities Management business, said: “We’re proud to have built up an award-winning partnership with Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust. Over the last seven years we’ve continually challenged our teams to innovate, and we look forward to working further with the Trust in delivering a world-class service.”
MITIE has been providing facilities management in healthcare for over 20 years, to clients such as Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, St George’s Hospital in London, and Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Cambridgeshire.
